2014 Southwest Steel Guitar Show

From Bob Blair on 12/22/2013 9:11:52 PM

January 16-18 in Phoenix.  This is a great event, as you will see when you look at the info via the attached link.  I am scheduled to play a set in the non-pedal sessions on the Saturday afternoon, and will be using weissenborn-style guitars (which ones I still haven't finally decided but I'm working on it).

This looks like a great show, Bob. Thanks for posting about it. In addition to your as yet unchosen Weissenborns, are there likely to be other Weissenborms around to try out?

Last year there weren't. The vendors were more geared to the pedal steel crowd, though I think there were a couple of lap steels. A lot of non-pedal players there - the Saturday non-pedal room was great, and from time to time there would be a non-pedal player on the main stage too. I was the only acoustic guy on the program though. (At the Dallas show in March of every year both Beard and Benoit are usually there, as well as Georgeboards - George sometimes has a weiss-style axe or two...)

I realized this morning that I was not the only acoustic player on the program - Dan Tyack used my Benoit Cajunborne for his entire set and was thoroughly awesome (that over-used word is entirely appropriate in this case!). Most if not all of Dan's set was done in the DADGAD tuning.

I look forward to meeting you in person Niels. I should be there around noon on Thursday.
