How do I register for a workshop?

Easy! Just visit the workshops page and click the red "Register Now" link under the workshop you're interested in. You won't get a login password or number, but your myHangout account will have access to the live workshop once you've registered.

How do I get into the workshop I've registered for?

Workshops take place in the Hangout Chatroom, which is easily accessible from any page on this site. Make sure you are signed into your myHangout account, then use the main site navigation and go to Forums>Hangout Chatroom. Click "Enter Chatroom" to enter the room. If you have more questions about getting into the room check out the “Getting Started” help page.

On the day of the workshop, be sure to log into the chatroom a few minutes before the workshop starts, so you don't miss anything. Keep in mind that posted workshop times are in Pacific (California) Time!

Can I record the workshop? How?

Recording is very easy, since it is built into the chatroom. Just go to File>Record Presentation, choose where you want the recording saved on your computer, and you're set! A yellow "R" will show up next to your name while you're recording. Want more info on recording? Visit the help page on recording a presentation.

I registered, but missed the workshop. Can I get a recording?

Chances are you can. We try to record each workshop for this reason. Just email the webmaster (eric@resohangout.com) and request a recording.

I don't understand time zones. What time are the workshops in my neck of the woods?

All workshop times are posted in Pacific Time (California time, which includes daylight savings when applicable). The current Pacific Time is posted at the top-right of the workshops page for your reference. To convert the time to Eastern, add 3 hours. Central, add 2 hours. Mountain, add 1 hour. Live in a different time zone? Try this handy site.

Do I need a webcam or microphone to participate?

No.. If you don’t have a webcam or mic, you can participate by typing text into the chat window. A webcam or mic is helpful if you want to be able to play something or speak to others instead of typing, but for whatever reason most students choose to participate via the text chat.

How do I use the chatroom (talk to others, etc)?

The best way to familiarize yourself with the chatroom is to sign in and poke around. The basic functionality is very straightforward and you should have no problem figuring it out.

Want more detail? Here are links to pages that explain in detail how to use your mic/webcam, text chat, and how to record the presentation (so you can watch it again in the future). You may also consult the complete Users Guide.

I'm having issues with the Hangout Chatroom. Where can I get help?

You can check out the iVocalize Support pages to see if they are any help. If you still need help after that, you can ask any moderator currently in the chatroom, and you can also contact me at eric@banjohangout.org.

Is my Internet connection fast enough for the workshop?

You must have a high-speed Internet connection in order to participate in these workshops. Just about any DSL, cable, or other broadband connection will work. We recommend a download speed of at least 750 kbps and an upload speed of at least 200 kbps (if you want to use a webcam or microphone). You can test your Internet connection speed at SpeedTest.net.

I registered, but missed the workshop. Can I get a refund?

We only issue refunds 7 days or more before the workshop date. This policy is necessary for several reasons, but the main reason is that, with a limited number of seats able to be sold for each workshop, you are taking a "seat" even if you don't show up.
