I have a Republic tricone resonator. I've become frustrated playing it because it buries the high notes, limiting what I can play on it. I'm wondering if the problem is the strings. The wound strings sound louder than the unwound ones. The strings I use are Curt Mangan 13-56 mediums, the ones recommended by Republic. Would a change of strings make things better or am I stuck with the problem? Thanks in advance for any input.

I was journalist in my career and wrote about popular music for books and national magazines, but I didn't start playing until age 62. I'm trying furiously to catch up to my friends who have been playing forever. I fell in love with resonators in the ླྀs by listening to Taj Mahal, whose resonator tone is still my goal.
