Matt Leadbetter is well-known for his ardent Dobro style. Having toured with many bluegrass greats, Matt is gaining notoriety as one of the best in the industry. Matt was raised in a very musical family, where he spent his days looking up to his father, Dobro legend, Phil Leadbetter. Throughout his childhood, Matt would go along with his father to watch him perform and at the age of eight, Matt decided that he, too, would become a Dobro great. Matt has been playing for more than 20 years and since starting his career 17 years ago, Matt has been included on an IBMA nominated album, five other group album projects and a solo album that stayed on the Roots Charts for nine months. His touring career began in 2000, when Matt landed his first road gig with Lynwood Lunsford and the Misty Valley Boys. He spent a year with Lynwood, in which he helped record the album It's A Carolina Morning. A couple years later, in 2002, Matt also worked with Blue Moon Rising and performed with them for nearly a year. As a young adult, Matt began touring with Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike. You can hear Matt's Dobro and harmony work on two of Valerie's CD's, one entitled That's What Love Can Do and her gospel album, Wash Away Your Troubles. Matt spent almost three years with Liberty Pike before taking a job with the IBMA award-winning group, The Lonesome River Band. It was then that Matt's playing along with his harmony vocals started gaining recognition across the country by fans and some of the best artists in the business. Matt’s work can be heard on The Lonesome River Band’s, IBMA nominated album The Road With No End. At the end of 2007 Matt took a job with Grammy Award winner Marty Raybon. Matt spent three years with Marty traveling nationwide and playing many of the biggest festivals and venues around. While with Mr. Raybon, Matt recorded Dobro and harmony vocals on two of Marty's award nominated albums. In 2015, after supporting some of the best in bluegrass music, Matt took the spotlight and released his first solo project. The album is self-titled and features instrumental only songs as well as vocal songs. The album includes some traditional favorites and some new material as well. His song, “Down on River Road” stayed on the Roots Chart for nine months. For three of those nine months, it was in the Top 5. Matt currently tours with Grammy nominated, Dale Ann Bradley and looks forward to many more years sharing the music that he loves.
