Lately, I've become re-interested in guitars, both collecting and playing. Prior to a few months ago, I really hadn't touched any of my guitars for years! But then early this year, I became interested in "the birth of metal" and, of all artists, Black Sabbath. This quickly led to my intent on purchasing an SG, like Tony Iommi's. I've always been a fan of Angus Young, so the SG was the common sense choice for my first vintage electric. I settled on a white '84 Standard on eBay. Hardly considered vintage, but the white finish is fairly rare, and it had the jack on the side of the body rather than the top . . also a bit rare. When I received the guitar, the white had faded to almost a banana cream. I could live with that, but what I couldn't live with was the marked fret wear. It quickly went to a friends who builds guitars. He performed a fretjob and changed the electronics and pups. It took almost three months, which gave me time to reacquaint myself to other guitars. In this short time, I became a big fan of Gretsch, but that's for another story. I also broke out my '33 Style O from the storage closet, and found that it was in dire need of a neck reset and new frets. It is still in the shop. Then came my '29 Trioian . . ..
