69 years old. Native Texan now located in southern California. Have worked as a performer, live music radio show host, luthier, repairman, writer, vintage instrument dealer, and teacher since the mid-1960s. Taught music and American Musical History at the University of California (Riverside) for twelve years, wrote regularly for "Pickin' ", "Guitar Player", "Frets", "Banjo Newsletter", and the "Bluegrass Soundboard", and have done instrument restoration for The Autry Museum of Western Heritage in L.A. Used to do a fair amount of studio work (which sounds romantic but mostly consists of recording sound-tracks for radio and TV commercials) but could only take living in downtown L.A. for just so long. Still play in a working band that uses Bluegrass-style acoustic instruments but mostly performs Jazz or "Jazzgrass". Naturally the band is yclept "Felonious Plunk". My Dobro is a 1936 Spanish-necked 14-fret model from the transition era, and I primarily use it for Jazz and Blues fingerpicking with a little Slide Blues thrown in when I'm in the mood for it.
