Hey Geoff..........Interesting concept.... I'm thinking the old Dobro® resonators had two open slotted areas which I would guess measured about the same as what you are showing with this new UNK Standard. I never heard anyone mention how vibration can move up and down the neck...but I don't doubt it.
Bobby Wolfe, luthier- player has the three hole design in some of his and I believe Bobby was an acoustical engineer and used to build amplifiers understood how to get and change sounds out of "boxes"...and guitars...and recently I saw a Dobro type with elliptical holes one either of the sides of the guitar. So many folks are looking to improve their "sound"....by going after all the various guitar bodies, string types, saddle inserts, bars, picks, pickups and on and on it goes. Truth of the matter is if all Dobro players could play as well as you.....those other things mentioned really become minimized. I say most of the "goods sounds" come out of the "player"...probably 90%.

Hi Tom! I agree that it's interesting. Paul (the builder of this guitar) told me his next guitar will be for himself. I told him to test this theory by building two necks for the guitar. One with a traditional, paddle type headstock, and the other with this type. Play one neck, record it, measure what you can, etc, then change only the neck and do the same tests. It seems like a great deal of work and the necks would certainly need to be bolted on, but it would be neat to really test this.

Thanks for the compliments, they mean a lot. Also, yes; the collection is growing. The wife doesn't mind as long as she can still buy her shoes and stuff. Comparing cost, shoes are fine with me! Perhaps I'll see you at NEPA or Wind Gap this year. All the best!
