Where Purchased: Elderly Instruments

Year Purchased: 2010
Price Paid: 750 ($US)

Sound

Big open sound. Great bass response. Even output up the neck. Very good for solo performance. Loud enough to be heard in a bluegrass jam.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

Good to go out of the box. No tweaks needed in the first month of playing it daily.

Setup Rating: 9

Appearance

Flawless finish. No drips or streaks. Neck is beautifully crafted. Inlaid maple strips instead of steel frets. Dot position markers. Bound neck. Very clean looking. Top and Bottom bound body.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

Guitar is well made. Seems rugged. I would have no problem gigging with it without a back up.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

I have not needed to contact Wechter.

Customer Service: 10

Components

This guitar has a Sheerhorn spun cone. The peghead design has a straight string path to each tuning machine. No pinch points in the bone nut. This is the same design method used in most steel guitars.

Components Rating: 10

Overall Comments

This guitar sold for $750 with a hard shell case in 2010. It is a very good value. The guitar body is constructed in Asia and then sent to the Wechter plant in Indiana for assembly and set up. It utilizes the popular open well with baffle and sound posts and therefore has the "modern" sound.

Overall Rating: 10
