Greetings! I’m looking to build an 8-string squareneck resonator for a client. Does anyone have a source for plans that might get me started down the right track? Thanks!
The only squareneck resonator plan I'm aware of is the blueprint from Resophonic Outfitters. This plan will be for a small "Regal" size body, 6-string, with internal soundwell and laminate constriction.
A detailed capture of a guitar build, with lots of photos, is in the Reso Hangout Storage. This is a solid wood, soundpost and baffle design.
Good luck in the venture!
Thanks for the tips (I’ve gotten some though private messages too). I’ve got the plans coming and now only would like to poll folks about nut/saddle width and string spacing. Is it standard to maintain the same spacing or compress it a bit?
From my Beard shop days:
Beard has a suitable nut. You'll not want 6 string spacing or a six string neck. As an 8 string player I encourage you to trust me on this.
8 str nut = 7.5
brg = 9.75

Multiplying 7.5 mm spacing by 7, you get 52.5 mm, from 1st string to 8th string, which converts to 2.1 in. The extra large Beard nut which Howard refers to is linked below. It is 2 1/2 in. wide. Allowing for 1/8 in. margin on each end, you get 2 1/4 in. from 1st string to 8th string. Dividing that by 7 you get 0.321 in. spacing, which converts 8.16 mm.

Thanks. This has all been very helpful. Looking forward to getting on with the build!
