Did Rudy Q Jones do the Soldier for Jesus album?

Yes, Rudy recorded an album with that title in 1968 in Long Beach, California when he was apparently living out here.  

I came across this record a number of years ago and I recall thinking "this doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would come out of southern California" - but it did.

And this is interesting: Rudy did the lead vocals, but none of the dobro playing, which was done by former Kentucky Colonel Leroy McNees. Rudy played guitar on the record. Maybe he wasn't so hot on the dobro  at the time so he went for an established pro player?

Did McNees at least play a RQ Jones dobro on the album?

Nope - apparently in 1968 Rudy had yet to take up the instrument. Perhaps it was Leroy who got the wheels turning in Rudy's head. 

He started playing in the early '70s and at some point after that  decided he could build a better mousetrap and hung out his shingle for R. Q. Jones Resonator Guitars.
