I wasn't sure about posting this, but I had such a good experience and result, that I wanted to say something.
About a week ago my new Tom Warner guitar fell out of its stand flat to the hardwood floor. (I won't tell the story, but it involved a piano, a cat, and a precariously positioned guitar case.) The bone nut was crushed. One new small nick. But as far as I could tell, everything else was okay.
I have changed a nut before, and I thought I could make this change myself. Before I started, however, I checked with Tom to see if he had thoughts. He had one very clear thing to say. Don't do this yourself. Check with Bobby Wright. After reading his email, I thought that he was right. If this were another guitar, I could do some practice repairs, but I don't want to mess this one up.
I contacted Bobby, he got me in, I think, the very next day. I live about 2 1/2 hours away, so I made a day of it.
To make a long story not quite so long, Bobby did a great repair, but he also went ahead and did some other needed setup work and cleanup on the guitar. It came out sounding entirely different (in a good way!). But the best part of the day came after he was finished. He walked me through what he had done. He showed me some things to be aware of. And then we just talked dobros and what makes them sound the way they do. Along the way, I got to hear a lot of good stories.
If you need repair or setup work done, I highly recommend Bobby. You can ship your guitar to him. If you are within driving range, however, I recommend making the visit yourself.

It must be nice to have one of the handful of known dobro setup wizards  in the country within a 2 1/2 hour drive!

I have an 70's OMI Dobro I would like to have set up. I talked with Beard but they are not taking that type of work in the foreseeable future. Could someone please give me a connection to Bobbie Wright? Google is not much help. Thanks!

I don't know if he checks this a lot, but Bobby is a member on this forum.

Yes- Bobby is the man for Reso setups. I just got my guitar worked on by him last month and it’s sounding great. He recommended a bunch of things for me to adjust and change as well.

He might not want me to write his phone number on here because of scammers, but if you PM me I’ll give you his contact.

Bobby has set up a couple guitars for me. I highly recommend Bobby for Dobro set ups! He set my Meredith up last and it sounds great!

Bobby has set up two of my resos as well. The first came back a completely different guitar - for the better! My second was my myrtle Appalachian that went right from Tom Warner to Bobby upon completion, so I only ever knew it with the “Wright” set up. Also an amazing guitar! A master of his craft and an even better guy!

I would also recommend a set up by Bobby. I posted this before, but last year our band shared a show with Doyle Lawson, after the show Josh Swift played my Appalachian Koa and asked if he could take it to Bobby. He called Bobby to make sure he could set it up and get it back to me right away. A few days later Bobby called and told me what he was going to do, kind of like how a Dr. goes over the procedure just before the operation. A few days after that the Appy came back to me with much more sustain, and the notes just sounded clean and bright. Then the first time I did a sound check, the microphone knew the difference, I had to back off the gain a bit, something I really did not notice at first until the electronics picked up the difference in volume. Thanks again to Dr. Dobro (Bobby) and Josh.
