Hi, cant find my first post by monday but it had attachments of my new Dobro.
So I guess it wasnt posted to prevent spam.
So, I have an O.M.I Dobro 047 '96.
I like it a lot but the new strings that are on it are not my favorites.
These are flexcore Tommy Emmanuel signatures, my buddie told me
His favorites but I prefer nickel.
I like a darker tone on the highs
a: if I would want to buy a Quarterman or Beard cone for this omi, what size should I take?
b: And a Beard coverplate, are these direct swap?
I dont like chrome ????
I'm not replacing right away, my dear loving wife would kill me but maybe end of the year.
Then, for this metalbodied, gorgious desert/sand/mustardburst , would another cone be a big difference?
Before changing cones, change your strings. You might find that's all you need to get the sound you want.
Richard, the first thing we need to know - is this a roundneck guitar for fretted and bottleneck slide playing, or is it a squareneck guitar for lap style playing with a steel bar?
Both types are discussed here, but the majority of the topics over the years are regarding lap style.
I'm guessing since you mentioned Tommy Emmanuel strings the guitar is a roundneck but I have learned over the years to not assume anything.
I have also seen threads where 10 posts into the topic members will make suggestions regarding squareneck guitars then we find out the original poster actually has a roundneck instrument.

Yeah sorry, its a roundneck.
The typical replacement spider cone is 10 9/16" in diameter. Often the top on older wood-body instruments is routed to accept the larger diameter That is not possible on your metal-body, but both Quarterman and Replogle also make a 10 1/2" diameter cone that should be a drop-in for your guitar.

Oops. Looking at your guitar carefully, I see that it has a biscuit cone, not a spider cone. Apologies! As you said Quarterman makes replacement 10 1/2" biscuit cones. Replogle also makes them. I thought Beard used to make them, but I don't see them at the Beard sight now.

National biscuit cones have given new life to a couple of inexpensive instruments for me.
So, what do I exactly got?
It's not a Blues Hula.
I bought a new bisquit and saddle at Mike Replogle.
This one has a Continental and sits a tad low for my heaVy hand.
But I cant find pics online of a guitar like mine.
I bought it @ MainwoodguitaRs from my buddy Peter.
I took the pics from his site, as it is my guitar now.
I'm struggling this format ??
