I am looking for a Tipton bar. I sent Ron messages, but have gotten no response. Anyone have one available?

Ron may be completely done - or not. I purchased a bar from him last September and at the time he had less than 10 available. He is not a member of the Facebook Dobroholics group and asked me at the  time to convey what he still had remaining.

Then I saw in that group several weeks after that he had another small batch - but that was like nine months ago.

He may be making them still… he donated two of them for the auction at ResoGat in July.

He might still be putting out small batches, but he's really  low key about it.

I know if I had the skills and the equipment and could sell them for ballpark a hundred bucks apiece, as long as I were physically able I'd continue making small batches because the demand is there from dobroists.

As a guy who has had a lot of issues with left hand cramps forcing time off, I have settled (for now) on a Charlies Bar. The Tipton (from photos I could find) looks vey similar. Curious as to what makes it "better" in the view of those who think it is...... Always looking for a "cramp free" bar. I've tried a lot of them.

I seem to recall somebody posting a photo of a player with a disability who used a bar that had a tube on the top of it to put his index finger through to support the weight, which meant no need to grip with thumb and middle finger...I don't recall where I saw it though...sad

I bought a stainless steel Scheerhorn bar, based on the Tipton design. Only bar I will use. A little hard to find right now but National still makes them.

National writes on their site that the Scheerhorn bar is based on "the classic old Tipton steel." I have never owned a Tipton in the past.

I can't vouch for this because the #2 Tipton I bought from Ron last fall is nothing like the stainless Scheerhorn bars I have been playing for the past 12-13 years.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Mark is probably right. I have never owned a Tipton bar, just went by what the National website said.

There is one Tipton model that looks like a Scheerhorn and there are 4 more that don't...marketing bullsh!t or ignorant hype?
