The RD40 series made by Regal have listed a USA spun cone in these guitars. Do you know who or what shop did these for this model of the Regal line? This is not the Black Lighting model.

Thanks

Even the Black Lightning in recent years has been listed on the Saga Music website as having a "U.S. made cone" rather than being described as a Quarterman, so I'm not sure what it all means.

Did they have Quarterman Cones when the RD series started? I’m trying to figure this out comparing visually an Rd cone that I bought new around eight years ago with a Quarterman that came this week. They do not look the same. Thank you for any input.

I used to have a couple of Saga Music  catalogs from some years ago, but they may have been recycled - or not. I keep way too much stuff around here. As I wrote earlier, the only model that I recall that specifically came with a Quarterman  was the Black Lightning.

I can't imagine that the RD models that would retail for ballpark $300 to $350 8-9 years ago included a Quarterman, I don't think the math would work as far as pricing goes.

Is it  possible the current cone is a Replogle? Mike Replogle  these days is the production manager at the prestigious Santa Cruz Guitars, and he still has his side gig of producing reso parts.

Prior to Santa Cruz he spent several years with Saga in the  Bay Area. I know in his role with Saga he made a lot of trips to China working with the factories there.

Since he was already in the cone biz and a a former Saga management employee I'm speculating it's possible that  the Regals use some version of his cone. Maybe there is some sort of agreement not to advertise them with the Replogle name.

There have been supply issues with Q-cones over the past several years and I understand that John Quarterman  has now passed his 80th birthday.

Thank you Mark for your thoughts. Maybe it said it came with a USA spun cone when I bought it years ago. Again thank you and this thread might be near dead now. Regal made a nice sounding instrument in the RD cherry colored one I’m looking over. Thank you Mark.
