hi every one at reso .its been a while since i have been here .and i felt so sad on hearing the passing of tom warner what a loverly man ,i shared lots of emails and calls with tom over the years as he made two dobros for me .to be honest the reason i came here this evening was to see if any would be interested in my koa appy made by tom .but learning of tom s passing it dont feel right just now .but over the years i have built up a large collection of dobro books and c,d.s i will get around to sorting them out and maybe put them on the reso marketplace any way love and peace haza . rest in peace mr warner
Good to see you back on here Phil - yeah it's been awhile - Tom sadly passed away from Covid in January 2021.
He was a genuinely good guy, I had a number of communications with him myself.
Funny thing, prior to becoming ill with Covid, he apparently had a fairly serious heart condition, but he never quite retired. He still built some guitars with "Warner Reso" on the headstock even after turning the Appalachian brand over to Tony Langley.
Tom trained Tony in how to build an Appalachian, and what Tony brought to the table was an expertise in high quality finishes. I have yet to see one in person, but if they sound as good as they look in the photos then we're talking top drawer Reso guitars, and Tony's prices seem to be lower than what what one finds from other boutique luthiers.
hi mark yer thanks for the welcome i knew tom was not in the best of health with other things .but like you i found tom to be a very nice helpful guy sadly missed .he guided me though the building of my guitar .just to add ,greg booth came over to the uk before the dam covid ,and played my goa in class and was wowed by it .i was more then happy with the end product with my guitar .but for greg to give it top marks .i think thats testomony to toms guitars .i do have video of greg playing my koa and with gregs permission id like to put it up on reso if i knew how .but sadly its with heavy heart i will be putting my koa up for sale soon i will all ways be greatfull to reso it as and as been a great leaning place for me ..love and peace haza
