Hi all, Just purchased a very nice square neck F hole dobro very similar in look and sound to my Gretsch bobtail with Fishman Nashville pickup. Question is whats the best pick up to add on the dobro. I very much like the sound of the Gretsch but to buy a Fishman Nashville pickup for the Dobro will cost more than I paid for the guitar although I guess it would sound good. Any suggestions please on pick up's . Was looking at something like a Myers goose neck pickup as that wouldn't involve altering the guitar and I could move that from guitar to guitar (but are they any good ) Does it compare to the Nashville ?
There's the Nashville..and then there's everything else.
If you need the attributes of the Nashville there really is nothing else that fits the bill.
This is only one opinion though...

Thanks for the reply Howard. Yes thought you might say the Nashville, they are just so expensive but are probably worth it for the sound ?
The sound, feedback resistance and the fact that it's designed to be mated with the Fishman/Douglas, Aura pedal. The pedal is still the imaging standard these days and less expensive than other options like the Felix.
It all depends how rigorous your stage/performance requirements are.

The Nashville is the only option for a pickup I’d consider. There’s also the option of clip on mics (I occasionally use a DPA 4099) and they sound amazing too but there’s the problem of feedback and they cost as much as a Nashville pickup and the JD Aura or the Aura Spectrum (my preference.)
Just my opinion as well. I’m trying to get the most acoustic sounding setup.
Thanks Howard, interesting video. I've retired from gigging as such and just do busking for charities now. I usually play my Gretsch bobtail (with Nashville pickup) directly into my Fishman loudbox mini charge which I think works well. If I can get the dobro sounding as good I will be happy.
Bought a new Fishman Nashville pickup in the end and fitted it to my Dobro. Pleased to say it was well worth it and sounds as good as my Gretsch.
