Here's an interesting article from the Smithsonian on the history of steel guitar and how it spread from Hawaii to other musical styles through the Hawaiian music craze of the early 20th century.  The book itself is very comprehensive and a fascinating look at Hawaiian history and culture.  Two badger paws WAY up!

Thanks! Fascinating article, and I think of John Troutman's book as something that should be required reading for steel guitarists.

The spotify playlist of old Hawaiian music that accompanies the article is probably the most enjoyable part!
