Resonator Guitar Lovers Online
Hello! I have a 42 National tricone and I have only seen pics of two on the internet! I think they're called an "Merino" from what I've read.
Are they really that rare? This one is a converted round neck. It must've been done decades ago. Sadly, the paint in the back was sanded off ages ago as well. I'm thinking of restoring the paint in the back.
I just never, ever see them and I thought it strange.
A National authority I'm not, but you don't see this model around so maybe it is pretty rare. I'm guessing they did the paint job instead of all the classic National metal artwork to offer a model to keep the price more reasonable.
I've read the name online as Marino with an "a" rather than Merino. But that was on one website only. On the Notecannons site there is a blurb on this model and a scan of the page from the 1942 catalog - no mention of Marino/Merino.
Since the guitar is no longer original with the neck conversion it would seem fine to repaint the back.
