Does anyone know why the Beard Copper Mountain reso isn’t made anymore. My squareneck CM is my all-time favorite gigging guitar. It sounds great, is really smooth to play and is very durable. Even the cutaway is useful on the squareneck when you’re playing single notes on the first string way up the neck. I’ve had people ask me where they could get one.
I vaguely recall hearing that the sales just didn't get to where they needed to be to keep the guitar in the lineup.
I have only played two in stores, a squareneck and a roundneck version. If I were the type of guy who can't control the impulse to reach for his wallet and pull out the Visa card after test driving a guitar I like, I would have bought the squareneck, I really liked this model. If I were unable to to control that impulse I might own 100 guitars, be divorced - and broke.
I have to wonder if some players just couldn't wrap their heads around the Ovation-like "bowl." And as far as the cutaway, I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard or read someone commenting as to "why the cutaway on a squareneck?"
I would think to get the whole thing going it cost Paul Beard some serious money to get the "bowl" designed and fabricated.
Again, I'm thinking sales wise the Copper Mountain wasn't passing muster.
Beard seems to be at the absolute top of their game these days and have a difficult time keeping up with demand. It wasn't many years ago they offered setup and repair services on any brand of reso guitar, they brought in a couple lines of imported guitars, hot rodded them and offered them for sale, and later would sell Gold Tone/Beard guitars with the genuine Beard setup.
As far as setup and repair, with the exception of the big dog Beard playing pros and maybe a few friends who have an "in," areas like setup and repair aren't happening there these days, at least for the time being.

I know of a McKenna and a Meredith that recently made the trip.

Good to know Howard. At one point some time ago there was an actual statement on Resophonic Outfitters that they were unable to offer setup services. Though I guess it might have come under the heading of "it doesn't hurt to ask."
