I would like to get a new strap for my Beard R Body. I have been using a Beard strap--one of the cloth ones--for many years. I think I've had it over 20 years and it is worn out and uncomfortable. Now I know from coming on this forum that there are some beautiful custom strap makers out there. But the price would be high on those. I am considering getting another Beard strap, only this time the leather one. I'd appreciate any feedback from those familiar with this strap. I'm looking to spend maybe around $100 to $150 or so. Maybe more for a good deal. I'm also thinking that a 2" strap would be okay as the Bear R body is fairly light weight. But I suppose there are advantages to the 3" size also. I could go either way. So... issues for discussion and your advice appreciated.

If you don't want to go for a custom-made-for-reso strap, this has worked well for me in the past. A leather strap with a rough side that doesn't slip, such as suede. Buy some leather shoe boot lace and make a braid with four strands by looping two laces through the headstock end of the strap, then tie that over your headstock. It's pretty durable, stable and strong. Another way to fix to the headstock is have a leather-worker make a loop with a "D" ring and attach it to the headstock end of the strap. That's easier to take on and off.

"You only cry once when you pay for quality."

I have two straps from Bobby Poff in Wyoming. One is a fancy custom job he made for me in 2007 - it would be very expensive were I to order the same one now. The other one is plain black, but that's not a negative - it looks really sharp.

Those straps from Beard always struck me as being  too floppy, but in all fairness, I have never used one.

You  really need something with some beef to it in my opinion. There's a reason why Jerry Douglas has 15 or more of them (this is what Bobby told me several years ago).

The basic model  according to the website is $250. Yeah, that's a lot. But it's also the last dobro strap you'll ever need.

I have two of these by Lakota Leathers and am extremely happy with them. I never tried a Poff because of the high price so I cannot compare them to the Lakota Leathers ones, but I think their quality is superb. Friendly people to deal with too.

I use a strap swivel quick connect at the tail piece and the attachment that comes with their resonator straps work great at the head.

I have a 3” leather strap from Beard on my Appy. Very comfortable strap - soft leather on the front and suede on the back. High quality webbing and attachments. An added advantage is that it’s detachable at the headstock, which would be crucial if your case has no extra room in it (like a Travelite for instance).
