Been looking at this on Reverb for a couple of weeks and finally had to drive up to Fond du Lac to try it out. I simply was not expecting it to be that much more than my Gold Tone PBS, but after my first strum I knew it was coming home with me. Just had to play it for a little while to talk myself into it. So glad I did. Spent the whole weekend playing it and the tone is fantastic, particularly on the bass side. Really excited about it and wanted to share with people who would understand. My wife, "It sounds and looks exactly the same...". Uh....no. cool

Just beautiful. I know that the imports are popular now, but it's not just about the cone or standardization. When you get a guy that selects his wood and thumps it at every step, it shows. These will never happen again. Congrats.
Question, does it weigh a lot?

Is this one of Tom's birch laminate guitars?

Beautiful guitar!  You will not regret your purchase. I have #237, made out of Sepele wood. It could be your guitar’s twin.

Congratulation on your Appy purchase, they are fantastic guitars. I had mine built by Tony Langley last year (#2023-02) who worked with Tom Warner and took over Appalachian guitars after his death. They are fantastic sounding and looking guitars. If you go to Appalachian Guitars LLC on Facebook there is a clip of Jerry Douglas playing one at "Celebrating Earl – 100 years".

Congratulations! We do know how you feel. My story like that was at IBMA and Paul Beard had this shiny beautiful guitar on a slowly rotating stand with lights on it and as I was admiring it he suggested that I play on it. I demurred because I surely couldn't afford whatever it might be and I didn't want to damage it. He handed it to me so I hit a few notes on it and immediately was smitten. My first thought was, "why isn't everyone playing one of these". That was 21 years ago and I still love that guitar today.

Yes! I was surprised how much more it weighed than the Gold Tone.

Yes. Birch body with a Mahogany neck and the Paul Beard Legend Cone, coverplate, and tail piece.

One question for everyone though. It came with D'Addario EFT13 strings on it, which like I said, sound great on the bass side. But the chop just doesn't have any "zing" to it, if you know what I mean. Maybe that is what they were going for with the flat top strings "to reduce string noise". Probably going to put some EJ42's on it this weekend and see what that gives me.

I tried a set of those flat tops one time a number of years ago and for  reasons I don't recall - I just wasn't feelin' it and didn't care for the strings.

I have #40, ordered after reading 100% positive Reso Hangout comments; I'd never seen nor heard one. And, all of you were spot on.
(Birch plywood body, open sound well, beanwood neck, Quarterman cone)

PS- I like EJ42s for my wood bodies, and Martin Retros for my metal bodies.

You should give the D’Addario NB strings a try some time. They improved the clarity and volume across all 6 strings on my Appy.

+1 on the NB's
They don't sound as good the day you put them on, but after that, they hold their own well.
