I posted this on the ResoGat Facebook page; reposting here for those who don't use FB:

For ResoGat 2023, I had the privilege to present the workshop, "Sound System Survival for Reso Players". I've been asked to present another workshop for ResoGat 2024, this one cleverly and tentatively entitled "Sound System Survival for Reso Players, Take Two".
Last year, the presentation focused a lot on microphones and microphone technique (including a mic shootout), pickups, cables, and handy tips to take care of equipment and make gigs go smoother. We briefly discussed effects pedals and equalization techniques. It was a lot of stuff to cover in an hour! Thanks to all who attended: I hope you found it useful.
For this year's workshop:
  • What topics from last year would you like to review?
  • What topics from last year would you like to receive more attention?
  • What new topics would you like to see addressed?
Looking forward to your feedback (no pun intended, pun accepted) to tailor the workshop to your needs. See you in a month!

Hey all. The ResoGat workshops kick off on Thursday, July 11 at 11:00 AM with “Sound System Survival for Reso Players, Take Two”. This year I'll demonstrate:

  1. Equalizing for Room and Resonator Guitar
  2. Effects pedals - What do you need if you decide to ditch the mic
  3. Extended Mic Shootout - We’ll set up the mics and demonstrate with modern and traditional resonator guitars. And , if you have a favorite mic not listed here, bring it by Wednesday evening and we’ll add it to the shootout:
    • Shure SM57 (Most ubiquitous dynamic instrument mic, in almost every mic collection)
    • Shure BETA57 (Extended frequency response dynamic mic)
    • Shure SM81 (Condenser mic with uncolored frequency response)
    • Shure KSM32 (“Large diaphragm” condenser mic, Jerry Douglas’ early favorite)
    • AKG C1000S (Condenser mic, Rob Ickes’ early favorite)
    • Line Audio Design CM4 (Condenser mic, Josh Swift endorsed)

4. THIS TIME FOR SURE!  Q & A section.  Ask anything, I’ll answer as much as I can

Plenty more fun and educational workshops on Thursday and Friday.  Looking forward to seeing you!
