A couple of the previously recommended makers of straps seem to be out of the business.

Poffstraps.com is no longer working.

I can’t find a way to order a strap from Martin Gross’ website.

I’m wondering about Lakota Leathers? And any other options?

It has been several years since Martin Gross made my straps (I have 2...), but you may want to email him at

marting55@googlemail.com

No guarantees he is monitoring email or still making straps. But worth a try. They are top notch. And I do recall it was more of a one-on-one interaction, old school style, as opposed to ordering via a form/website.

Good luck in any event.

Though the straps currently show as Sold Out, this has been the website for Poff straps over the past few years:

https://www.bluegrassgear.com/collections/poff-straps

I would take the "it doesn't hurt to ask" approach and contact Bobby and company. He has been sharing photos of some recently completed straps on his Facebook page.

I Like my Lakota leather, however, I never stand. Mine is just in case it slides off the lap.

The leather is very soft.

I have Lakota, Levy’s and Webb (Beard) straps. All very functional but if you need (or desire) a quick connect at the headstock Lakota and Levy’s are not for you. I had a Travelite case for a few years that didn’t have room to leave the strap connected. Webb is a solid functional strap but not so much on the bling factor. Which might lead to further searching for a Poff or Gross strap.

Franklin Strap, Antioch Tenn. just outside of Nashville.
615 791 7057.
On line Franklin Strap.com
I have a Lakota Strap too. But you must have a strap lock for the Lakota since it is very soft. In fact you should use a strap lock on any Reso.

Something to keep in mind: Correctly designed  straps IMO are more important to this instrument than they are to a flattop guitar. The dobro itself usually weighs considerably more than the typical flattop, and where a flattop guitar rests against one's body, the dobro is sort of "cantilevered" out in front of you and there is a bit of a learning curve to play while standing.

I have two Poff straps - the leather is more beefy and stiffer - not as flexible as a typical leather acoustic guitar strap. This really helps with keeping the dobro steady and not having it shift around while playing standing.

Soft, flexy leather seems like a good idea at first -  feels good to the touch - but it's not so great for playing a dobro while standing.

What MarkinSonoma said.

Thanks for the tips all! And what MarkInSonoma says makes sense. Pinegrove and Lakota Leathers look beautiful, though perhaps not very stiff and supportive.

Beard is out of stock of resonator straps.
Poff is out of stock.
Martin Gross is moving his shop, so not currently taking orders.

Any other ideas welcomed!

I am also in both the Poff and Gross camps.  Before giving up though, I would reach out to Bobby himself or Marta, his daughter, as Mark mentioned.  Just because the website says they are out of stock, doesn't mean you can't get on the list for one of his straps, whether it be a standard or custom.  If neither of those, or Webb straps are available, then my suggestion would be Franklin straps. I was sent one when I order the Belly Bar kit from Asher Guitars for my incoming lap steel. They can be ordered straight from Franklin’s website. Very nice straps for the price!

Bobby Poff made a strap for me in February of this year and it is of great design and quality workmanship.

I have a Martin Gross strap and possibly a Poff strap for sale. Also, I have a Ken Harper hand built strap for sale. I am at ResoGat now and will be home in a few days.
