This is my dad's old guitar and I'm trying to learn more about it. There are no visible serial numbers or numbers/stampings of any kind on the outside. I have not opened it up, and I'd rather not do that if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It is a Model 35 "fiddle edge" Dobro. These were made between 1935-1940 by Regal. Dobro licensed Regal of Chicago to make Dobros beginning around late 1932 and Regal was making Dobro guitars until just prior to the beginning of WWII when all production stopped because metal was required for the war effort. In fact, from sometime in 1937 until the end prior to the war, Regal handled all Dobro manufacturing. 

It is different than a metal body National because of the spider bridge construction. With no serial number stamped on the tip of the headstock chances are it was made between 1935 and 1937. Cool old guitar, but metal body Dobros from the prewar era are not as valuable as metal body National guitars from the same period. You can read more in the links below:
