Hello all!

I took a chance and bought this dobro on Facebook marketplace with out much info (seller was a not a player)

It was clearly set up for slide playing and my interest is Spanish/fingerstyle with action much lower.

My question is, what would that take? I see the nut would be replaced but would a neck re-set be needed as well? Is that even possible with these.

Not sure the pictures will be enough to give a definitive answer but any insight would be appreciated.

I'v found a big issue with roundneck action is how the cone sits, and how it affects the string break between bridge and tailpiece. And if you do need a neck reset, I had that done to an import tricone; it now plays quite well. The reset wasn't cheap, but wasn't exorbitant.

The neck reset on a Dobro is much like a standard guitar in that you need to remove material from the heel, where it differs is, the Dobro has a screwed on neck, the screws are under the fretboard inlays over the body and one inside through the end of the neck stick. Once the correct angle has been established, you will need to shim up the neck stick, and possibly add a shim under the fretboard end.
