After this thread was started by new member Tom five days ago (Tom - where are you?) I was listening to the Eagles Desperado album the other day on my phone while out on a walk, it had been many years since I have heard it from start to finish. After the success of the first album the sales of Desperado weren't that great - might be a little too much bluegrass mixed with the straight ahead Rock for the general public back then, but it was pretty much my favorite Eagles album.
Twenty One is a Bernie Leadon song, and it was Bernie who brought the bluegrass vibe to the band. A multi-talented musician, I'm about 98% sure he was playing lap style dobro in this number, though the guy who created the tablature chose low bass G (DGDGBD) for the tab like you'd use on a roundneck guitar played bottleneck slide.
I haven't checked it out yet for accuracy, but since most everything is played on the upper strings it might be pretty close for lap style dobro. Normally when trying to learn a song like this where it's rare to find any dobro tab, I print out a chord/lyrics chart online to get all the changes under my fingers and into my head, then I try to figure out the dobro part. Over the years when I've played with other people, the vast majority of the songs don't have any dobro, so for leads and fills I've had to come up with those parts on my own.
Nice playing by Bernie - this was prior to the Eagles switching gears and losing a lot of the country rock and bluegrass vibe they originally brought to the table. Like their version of Steve Young's Seven Bridges Road which is full on bluegrass, very different from Young's more laid back ballad on his original recording that has a big string section on the track.
