I have talked to Gabby at Beard she said they don’t have any for sale. Any body have advice on how to make one, or a picture that I could look at ?

Here are pictures of the Beard baffle and the Scheerhorn baffle.

I converted both of my Wolfe resos to having a Scheerhorn-like baffle, which is designed to direct more bass out of the holes, rather than losing it inside the lower bout behind the wood baffle.

I cut up a half-gallon plastic milk bottle, removing the hard handle, top, and bottom. Then, I shaped it to wedge-fit it between the horizontal brace on the bottom where the original baffle was located and the top of the upper bout where the neck is attached. I cut out a piece to allow the new baffle to fit around the neck joint inside the body. I could have wedged it under a horizontal brace closer to the opening, and then I wouldn't have needed to cut out the piece to go around the neck joint.

Now, I get even more of the full sound and volume Bobby was striving for. BTW, after talking with him several times, I learned that what he was referring to when he called his design "ported" was not the extra holes he added to the upper bout (which some call portholes), but it referred to the 2 wood pieces he put in the lower bout at the heel to direct sound forward toward the middle and upper bout, like the interior designs of speaker boxes.

I read somewhere on this forum that the early Sheerhorn baffles were wood. Here's my version. It's made from 1/32" plywood from a Hobby Shop.

I owned Scheerhorn #37 R body and it had a plastic baffle.

Early Scheerhorns had an aluminum baffle.

I'm sure he tried a wood one before trying aluminum in his experimenting, and of course, settling on the polycarbonate one.

I actually had a picture of his wood one with his signature inside the guitar in front of it until a few days ago when I erased it, deciding that I didn't need it any longer. All the pics I had of his building process are no longer online, as far as I can find. Maybe someone else has them.

I have a 1991'Horn R, #33, and it has an aluminum baffle.
My good friend, docslyde, has #32 and it also has an aluminum baffle.

I'm certain he never sold one with a wood baffle, but I could be wrong. Is he still with us? Perhaps, someone could ask him.

It's because the Scheerhorn device was more of a shaped scoop, hence the aluminum/polycarb. Beard uses a a baffle arc. Two different designs for their guitars which may or may not be adaptable/transferable to other guitar designs.

In the good ole days, one could buy soundwells for building your own reso. They were available with the big holes, or undrilled. The Beard-style baffle could be fabricated from one of those (cut in two and trim to fit), if you could still get them.

Failing that, you could look for "drum shells" or "hand drum shells" and try to find one 11 inches diameter and about 1/4" thick.

Or you could laminate your own with a form and veneers. With thin enough veneers, you might not need to heat bend.

If you prefer a Scheerhorn (scoop)-style baffle, I suggest first making a pattern out of cardboard, install and adjust to your preference, and then fabricate from 1/16" polycarbonate (available from Stuff Depot or other big box hardware stores).

Whoa, this sounds like a major undertaking! Though I would never discourage such tinkering, please make sure it's within your skill set and risk tolerance before starting,

OP is asking for a Beard baffle...but here's the poly scoop Byrl Murdock fabricated for my W/S. (It didn't have one when i bought...)

It took him 45-60 mins (as I recall) from raw sheet to installation. (He did use a heat gun...)

I understand the Beard Josh Swift model has a scoop. Does anyone have an interior picture?

As best I can tell, the Scheerhorn scoop has a smaller radius at the bottom than that at the top, suggesting that it is a section of a cone, rather than a cylinder.

I try to ignore threads such as these but, my curiosity got the best of me.

What does the OP hope to accomplish and exactly what is he attempting to modify?

From the OP's posts, I gather that he was trying to obtain or perhaps fabricate a Beard-style (semi-cylindrical) baffle.

And, since baffles are one of the hot topics in ResoLand, multiple interesting and somewhat scope-creeping posts ensued.  Including mine I must admit.  Probably a predictable response, given the reso forum history.

The OP hasn't chimed in in a week.  Perhaps he could help us determine if his question was indeed answered...
