Doug, that's a bummer! I have a g9210 that I love, and hope I don't need one, but have you tried writing to Gretsch, or maybe better yet, Sweetwater, who handles a lot of them, and where I bought mine?

You could probably call and get a quicker answer!

According to the specs for the Bobtail on the Gretsch Roots Collection website, the tuning machine used is the Grover® Sta-Tite™ Die-Cast with a black button.

Doug, I saw some black buttons only for sale online that are Grovers, is that what you have bought that didn't work?

Check out this link from StewMac, these are the same model name for ukeleles, and they look like they might be the same tuning machines, though the actual model number is not included on the Gretsch site for the Bobtail. 

If that were the case, you'd have to buy four unless you could talk their customer service rep into opening a package and sell you one only. It might be better to replace the whole machine with the button already attached rather than trying to chase down more buttons that might not fit.

This machine set is also available on Amazon, so if you have a Prime account then you won't have to pay for shipping.  You'd have three sitting in a drawer for backups - but if you can't find a button that works this could be your best option. And if you bought the set on Amazon and it didn't work then returns are usually pretty easy.

Another option is to contact Gretsch Customer Service in Phoenix to see if they can be of help. 

Many people are unaware of this, but Gretsch entered into a partnership with the long arm of Fender in the early 2000s. Fender handles manufacturing/marketing/sales/distribution for Gretsch, though the Gretsch family still owns the brand. I'm sure this has everything to do with the Gretsch resos which hit the market around 14 years ago being ubiquitous, like in practically every Guitar Center store you walk into along with the big online retailers. 

Fender's corporate HQ is in Phoenix, so it's possible a customer service rep there might work with all the products under the Fender umbrella.
