That is really cool  - I don't recall ever coming across this tuning in the past:

Open F6 with Eb in the bass: Eb F C F A D

I'll give it a shot at some point on a squareneck, and also on one of my flattops since I don't own a roundneck resonator. 

Tuning the squareneck 5th string down to F from B might be kind of floppy, but it won't cost me anything to try.

Justin is his own thing, why don't you give it a try yourself, that song would be perfect for steel.

I had a look on the YouTubes and all the guys are playing pedals, you could probably mine some licks and adapt them to straight steel though.

I wish! My playing hasn't developed to that point yet.

Justin is in a league of his own.

Seems in the “lap” world, the closest equivalent I’ve seen to that playing style might be skilled solo Weissenborn players, like Jacob Raagaard or Thomas Oliver.  Playing lap style (no fretting) makes it distinct, but there are some similarities.

No reason these guys couldn't play this stuff on resonators if they chose to.

I would think that a Drop-E tuning would probably be a workable tuning for squareneck because of the need for the tonic minor. I have my doubts about a 6th tuning working here...
