Quick demo (1:45) of behind-the-nut overtones (the string section between nut and tuning posts). Likely exacerbated by all the metal on the Hipshot DoubleShot and metal roller nut. You may need headphones to hear it clearly.
Typically this isn't much to worry about, except maybe when recording into a sensitive condenser mic. For gigs I generally don't bother.
BTW, I demonstrate this on chops, but it happens any time a note is cut off abruptly.
The "fret mute" I show goes for just over $2 on Amazon (3 for $6) - not $10 as I said.
