My metal body tricone (round neck) wants to rotate right out of my lap. How do others deal with that and would a spider or biscuit design sit more like a normal acoustic guitar? Thanks!

Yes. Doable but still wants to pitch up. How about the balance difference between the tricone and other designs?
None of those guitar options sound like a tricone.
If you are dedicated to lapstyle I'd look into sourcing a thin sheet rubber from a local hardware store or Amazon and afix it to the back of the guitar (arched back perhaps?).
That should provide enough friction to stabilize the guitar.
Part (not all) of the issue on many round necks, particularly arched back guitars, is that the weight is all body, little neck. That's alleviated to some degree with square necked guitars where the neck has more mass/weight.

Hipdobro - thank you for response. Just to be clear, I do not play lap style…..I hold the resonator in the same manner you would hold a guitar conventionally.
Right now, with this guitar, too much of my fretting (or slide) hand effort is being spent just keeping the neck down.
My question about the other designs is borne in the notion that if I can’t keep the current guitar in a reasonable position, it doesn’t matter how good it sounds, I won’t play it. If the other designs are better ergonomically, then I can enjoy the process.
Very appreciative of thoughts and open to ideas.

Have you tried playing with the waist on your left leg and the lower bout between both your legs? I am thinking that your right leg might hold the guitar in position and stop the rotation.
Yes. That is how I currently play it.....more in a classical guitar type position.
