Hey all - i'm thinking about get a decent asian reso for camping/banging around as my other spider guitars are 30's prewars and i don't want to subject them too potential adverse ending conditions - i want a dobro with sound ring as don't really like the soundwell less sound and a 1 3/4 at the nut size. i see the Regal rd-56 is the newish blacklighting round neck (about $700) and the recording king professional (a bit over 800) - i have an extra #14 spider and Quarterman cone for upgrading from left over experimentations - any opinions? i imagine they are probably made in the same factory and look pretty similar has anyone compared them head to head - orhave any thought on either?

I have a RC-55 that’s fun to play. I keep it in DADF#AD usually. I’m not sure how close in specs it is to the 56. It’s a biscuit bridge. I replaced the cone with a Beard Legend that helped it a lot. resohangout.com/forum/attachme...eID=42555
I asked the late Frank Harlow the same sort of question.
At the time, several years ago he recommended the black lightning.
I paid a jerk $400 for it. He dropped it and broke the neck loose so it was basically worthless. Rather than Fight I gave it to Frank. My friend. He said I will take are of it.
He installed the #14 spider and Quarterman cone. And reset the neck.
We often travel to San Francisco and that guitar goes with me. But, not until next year.
The other one could be better. I do not know.
It is my practice and travel guitar. At bluegrass jams they prefer I bring one of the Harlows. i kind of prefer old country music playing which the lightning does better.
