We have lost one of the true legends of our music-one of the few who developed and left for us a style of music that was truly original.Thanks,Earl-may you rest in peace, and prayers of comfort for the family.

We've lost one of the true originators and innovators for Bluegrass Music. Right to the day he was called home, he was true to his musical stylings and to the fans who admired him. Thank you and rest easy Earl.

I think that Earl, along with Lester and Josh, were more responsible for my lifelong interest in music (especially bluegrass and the reso.) than anyone else. I could never get enough of them. RIP Earl.

A legend passes but leaves a legacy for all time. He will be remembered and revered long in to the future. RIP Earl. And bless his family and give them solace and comfort in this time of sorrow.

I loved that man like I loved my own Father. he gave me the gift of his tones timing and Rhythm. Gifts I will always cherish and will always play his songs with pride. He will be part of my day every day until I die as he has been for the last forty years when I first picked up the banjo. Thank you Earl for what you have given us all, the most precious gift: your music.

Likely none of us on here who don't owe a lot of our style and technique to this legend. Thank you Earl, for all of your contributions and inspiration. RIP.

Where would we all be if Earl did not do what he did? Would Josh have done what he did for the Dobro? On and On and On. You canʻt even count the accomplishments he did and inspired in others.

Bluegrass lost a little of it's luster last night.
His innovative style created a legacy.
RIP Mr.Scruggs.

He was a wonderful man and contributed so much to music, he's the reason for my interest in bluegrass and banjo in the first place. This was coming I guess but it makes me so sad.
JaySutton - Posted - 03/29/2012: 12:46:55
I woke up this morning and felt the loss, didnt know untill I got to work that he had passed. God bless, RIP Mr. Scruggs.

That was sad news. The first bluegrass music I had was a tape with Flatt&Scruggs. The first book I had about bluegrass was his banjo tutorial book. That book covered everything, even how to build a banjo. RIP Earl Scruggs.

Just read this myself. I'm grateful to have finally discovered his music in my late twenties. What a talent.

The only person that will ever need a tuner re-invented to try to play his stuff..

If I could play a banjo half that good I would have never grabed a Dobro. He IS the reason I play Dobro.
Rest easy Earl, and thanks for everything...
