Dobro Dale - Posted - 08/22/2008: 18:26:33
Okay, I was waiting for someone else to ask... Are there any plans available for sale besides the StewMac blueprint? I just finished building a banjo and am ready to start a reso (I'm really wanting to say Dobro)... I want do do a solid body with posts rather than a well. I want a nice full sound to replace my plywood, thin sounding Dobro (hope that doesn't offend anyone, I'm just not happy with it). I was going to do some experimenting with my own design but after tons of trial and error with the banjo I'd be happy to use some good plans. I took a Jones apart a few years ago and made some notes but they're long gone now.
Thanks
Dale

I think that Paul Beard sells blueprints for dobros (notice that I used a lower case letter).
Don't knock good plywood. The MAS that Beard builds sound wonderful, and my Guernsey is no slouch, either. A good setup means a lot when it comes to dobros.
Good luck.

I've heard a few really good sounding plywood dobros. I had mine professionally set up when I lived in Nashville. It was a big improvement but it still just doesn't come close to what I want personally.
