I have 2 Weissenborns, a Goldtone SM and a Blackwood Tim Kill custom. I've tried lots of string brands and now tend to use Newtone Alohas, D'addario EJ17s or EJ42s and change the first string to a .15. I noticed recently while switching between the two that there was a noticeable difference in the sound and feel of the slide on the first strings (not the tone so much). I've no idea what brand these strings are (I think the Goldtone probably has Alohas on) as I've got a bunch of .15s.

Anybody else noticed this? Do people have favorite brands of Plain steel strings?

	Niels Andrews says: 11/17/2015 4:35:16 AM I just had dinner with Paul Beard Sunday night and we. Discussed strings at great length. He said that for any resooohonic instrument the most important thing is that the wound strings have a round core, they be bronze phosphor and fresh. Paul says he has found noticeable degradation in as little has four hours of playing. I plan too look further into Wiess strings when I have time.
	raharris says: 11/17/2015 6:53:17 AM I use GHS steel or Pearse nickel on my National dobro. The GHS have round core. As for Beard's observations above I think it's a matter of preference. Beard likes bronze, but that doesn't mean we all have to share his preferences!
gyuen62646 says: 12/6/2015 2:30:43 PM Newtone Aloha string are almost impossible to find in the US. Iseman guitar sells a custom set of Pearse strings in the same gauges as the Newtone Aloha strings. I don't know the difference in tone between the two
