How about a little 8 String Swing: Mike Auldridge style? Six stings as well and maybe a little lap steel in C6th tuning, too?

Hi. Just stumbled across this group which seems to need some input perhaps. so here goes.
I'm just beginning an 8 string build and from what I've read here it will likely be a G6 tuning. I'm thinking of (L-H) EGBDEGBA. The bottom string can be tuned to an F or an E and can be retuned at will. The top string will be one tone lower than the second string. The reason for this is simply it equates with the bottom neck of the pedal steel guitar which I am comfortable playing. My 8 string lap steel is just a copy of the first 8 strings on the C6 pedal steel and everything translates easily. Same should occur with the dobro tuning.
I have a few questions about the build and I'm unsure if this is the best place but here goes. I am undecided about a soundwell or maybe sound posts. Any ideas and why? Also I have hastily bought the hardware and now realise that the 8 strings may be too wide to fit under the bridge cover. Is there such a thing as an 8 string cover plate?
And then there is the question of a pickup. Does a bridge pick up even exist for an 8 string. I have installed a Fishman in my 6 string which just goes under the cone, but that is prone to feedback issues at some volume. It is difficult to get the right place to stand on stage but it is certainly NOT near the monitor and hence hearing what one plays is problematic.
However, any comments or insights will be gladly received and appreciated. I'm excited about swing on dobro and think it sounds wonderful in the right hands.
