How about a little 8 String Swing: Mike Auldridge style? Six stings as well and maybe a little lap steel in C6th tuning, too?

I like bluegrass, but love western swing, so I'm in the throes of trying to make the decision between square or round. My experience is pretty much nil. I played guitar for a couple of years in the late '70s (Guild D-25 dreadnaught acoustic), but sold it to buy a wedding ring. So it's been 34 years of staring at that ring and remembering my guitar. :-) So basically, I'm a raw beginner. Any suggestions? Also, which is easier to learn to play?

	1earthtwang says: 6/11/2012 5:51:23 AM For 'grass, you need a squareneck tuned to GBDGBD. I use a squarenck for country, gospel and 'grass. For western swing I would suggest a 6 or 8 string electric lap steel tuned to C6. OR, to start out with, buy a $6 nut extender for the guitar that you have now and tune it to C6. You will have to change string gauges to your existing guitar. Another option is a 10 string console guitar or pedal steel. If I were you being that you like western swing so much, I would go that route and find some online lessons. I put a nut extender on a Squier Tele and it sounds great. "Deep within my heart........." Do I hear Bob Wills? By the way, the lap steels have shorter necks and are easier to do slants on than a comverted guitar.
	jazzrambler says: 6/12/2012 6:03:26 AM I'm a fairly experienced player in C6 (CEGACE)so I'm toying with tuning my Dobro to G6 (GBDEBD) when I'm playing a lot of Swing. It's a little different but lets you get that VI chord without traveling too far up the neck.
