i have, throughout my life, built things. Houses, cabinets, boxes , dinghys, a fifty foot steel sailboat, fences, steel gates, banjos, dulcimers, mandolins and guitars to name a few of those things.
Building musical instruments is the most challenging. It is also a rather solitary experience. No one can appreciate the endless hours of sanding, or the endless attention to detail, or the joy of hearing someone making cool music with an instrument that was produced in that small isolated shop. No one who hasn't done it themselves.
After almost 100 instruments I'm about to build a steel resophonic guitar, or three. I'm looking forward to the challenge.
