I want to get everyone's opinion on this...
I'm wondering if "Reso" Hangout is too narrow of an audience--if it would make sense to expand the site's reach to all steel guitar players (pedal steel, lap steel, etc), not just those playing resophonic guitars.
Let me know what you think!

Why should a dobro player never leave home without his slide?

I like it 'Reso' Hangout better myself... I think the 'Steel' hangout will make it more narrow...
Maybe a 'steel' page, or a 'lapstyle' page
Maybe the Slide Players Hangout...with sections for bottleneckers & lap dogs?

Hm..."steel" would leave out those who play reso guitars Spanish-style. Just offhand I can't see any way to do this except a hybrid - "steel & reso".

I agree with, keep it reso, and have the Pedal and Lap subcategories in playing (along with square and round of course)

I agree with "Hooked on.." Steel makes it more narrow.
I think "Reso" is recognizable to the point that it will draw folks of these other "slidy persuasions".

There already is a steel site. with a no-pedelers section- keep it RESO

Reso... until Gibson finally decides to sell Dobro, then Dobro hangout.
schlange - Posted - 08/06/2008: 12:34:13
(Don't tell Gibson, but I own dobrohangout.com and it redirects to this site :-)

Well, if you also owned STEELHANGOUT and it redirected here, then it could stay resohangout but also receive more "electric" lap and pedal traffic.

I like Reso Hangout just fine. The name identifies us and the instrument that we play. Other slide and steel players will find this site no problem.
Resonance - Posted - 08/06/2008: 13:32:40
I don't think it's too narrow, I think it characterizes the essence of the hangout and does not preclude having a steel section if interest warrants.
Reso players identify closely with their instruments and will appreciate a dedicated website.

Hey Mike,
Welcome first of all !
Do you also publish a newsletter for sick, grumpy Dobro players ?

ResoHangout! Use a Steel forum just as you do on the BHO for clawhammer.

My vote is definately for "The Reso Hangout"
although a Steel section would definately be good, why leave our electric bretheren in the dark

Reso I'm just a little selfish but I don't want to sort through a bunch of pedal steel stuff to get to the reso stuff.

BoiDetroit - Posted - 08/06/2008: 21:07:48
Keep it Reso. There are other groups that handle the lap and pedal stuff.
Pedals?
I got no pedals.
I don''t need no stinkin'' pedals!

I would like to see it stay Reso Hangout.
It seems to me that a steel is an electric type of instrument and my reso in acoustic.
That being said I would still visit as often as I do now and would not complain about the steel guys taking over. No offense meant to anyone.
You all know how tempermental Dobro players are.

Hi Eric, I just joined the site and have been learning for about three years but I think we can all learn techniques from players of any slide instrument even though we may not play their particular instrument. I would suggest it would be a good idea to expand the site as you are considering.........Kevin

What about Reso players who play a Weissenborn as well and are interested in both?
I.m.O., the main difference is the tuning in G/A or D/E and the sound - and this gives you wider possibilities for different songs.
So what's the reason for beeing so unilateral?
jimmyt - Posted - 02/03/2010: 07:30:39
From a player of both ,PLEASE keep it reso. It is a refreshing site.
MissouriPicker - Posted - 05/06/2010: 08:31:08
I like "Reso Hangout." I'd leave it that if it were my decision. However, since lap style guitars in particular are all played pretty much in most ways, I'd have no problem seeing the techniques of "steel" pickers too.

If you use a brass bar, wouldn't it be called "The Brass Hangout"?

I just know that it's a great place to hang-out. I'll come here no matter what we call it.

As a pedal steel player,I also belong to the steel guitar forum which is a very good forum for pedal and non pedal steel guitars.I agree with the majority in keeping reso related forums seperate.

For what it is worth
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let them get there own site :-)
Besides we don't have pedals on our resos

Gotta go with Reso myself, heck if it were me id tempt fate and call it the Dobro Hangout... until G&$^&* decided to put the screws to me anyhow... lol I agree with the RESO part in reality the family of reso/dobro/steel is covered by.. the slide hangout but anyone who has the hankerin for a steel guitar has also been looking at RESO. And i have seen some folks here with steel in mind, and finding your site, so its working as is...
If it aint broke...
opinions of a short timer = non negotiable tender lol

I vote to leave it RESO. The steel players (which I am one of also) have the Steel Guitar Forum.... which is a super great forum and they cover the steel guitar, lap steel, real well.. To me the RESO is a specialty instrument like the fiddle, banjo, mandolin. Lets not destroy the friendship we have as RESO PLAYERS by diluting
RESO HANGOUT with other instruments. (My opinion) leegee
