Resonator Guitar Lovers Online
Wow...what a year it has been.. It started out with the notion that my resos need not to be amped with pick-ups. With this in mind, we started to get a more natural sound by experimenting with mikes in the studio to get that sound. We managed to let all the sound modifiers go except for the 10 string Dobro. Then in April, I ordered a new reso to be built in curly maple with a legend cone and all the latest tricks fro Tom Warner in West Virginia. This Applachian reso was equipped with D"Addario EJ-42 strings. I uaually have DR Lights for all my resos, but this combination was an eye opener for me. Since then, I have changed the strings on my TTT mahagany reso to those strings. It has to do with, among other things, the cones in each guitar. Having these guitars miked through the board in the studio makes much more sense than using sound modofiers. Also, we installed new ferrels in the old 30's Dobro for easier tuning since there were none on the headstock since I have owned it since 1953. The new year brings more challenges as I am convinced I need to learn more new licks and working with Nora Collins on her career. She is already a multiple award winning songwriter and singer in the folk/country music area. I will keep you posted as to the progress we make since I am very well versed in all aspects of the music business for the past 63 years.
